Those hard earned tax dollars have proven useful today, as the existence of Dark Matter is proven. A group of astronomers observed two galaxies colliding with each other using Nasa’s Chandra X-ray observatory as well as the Hubble space telescope and they were able to conclude through these instruments that dark matter indeed exists.

Some interesting things about dark matter:

1) It is not made of the common building block particles that normal matter is made from ( protons, electrons, etc…)
2) It does NOT give off, absorb, or reflect light ( hence the DARK )
3) It does not interact with normal matter. ( Dark Matter could be passing through you, your computer, and your desk at this exact moment )

It is amazing that they were able to detect such an elusive substance.
